Frustration free

You know, when I was in secondary school (Where my Holy Cross men at?) I would sometimes struggle with Maths. Now I wasn't bad at it, but like most people, there were things that I could grasp and things I couldn't. This inability to understand the subject would, at times, lead to frustration. A frustration that would cause me to lash out and say things like "Why do I need to know algebra?" or "Who actually uses recursion in their daily lives?". This gave me comfort. In then end, I passed, but at the time it limited the options I had when it came to A' Levels. Had I applied myself more, I'm sure that I would have had a better result.

Fast-forward, after a few bumps and bruises, I'm finally doing my degree, and here comes Maths again. Being a much older and wiser, I humbled myself and applied the necessary effort. Even when things were at an incredulous level to what came before, I doubled down and did the work. I decided that this time I would see things through, even if I couldn't see its purpose. The epiphany came when I began to do programming. As I wrote, the maths I learnt became the foundation of everything that I was doing. It became the solution to most of the problems I had. Not to sound corny, but it made me realize how much Maths was part of our daily lives.

In fact many of the courses I did, Sociology, Literature, History, Economics, help me to see things from a different perspective. Now, I'm not saying all this just to sell the power of tertiary education, but to sell the power of knowledge. More importantly, how it can raise you out of the situation you are in. Do not let frustration, EVER, rob you of putting your best foot forward.
